I was extremely pleased to see that I could order these directly from Amazon and, as an added bonus, at a cheaper price! It's great to have these delivered to the home with no shipping fees. The shelves have to be put together properly. The very first shelf I put together was puzzling until I figured it out. As a single woman who is often doing these kinds of things solo, I have found that it is best to lay the unit on the floor to put together if it is a 72" unit. The little black grippers have to be placed on the pole correctly meaning (1) they must not be upside down and (2) they have to be in a groove on the pole. If you are on a place on the pole where there are two grooves close together, make sure both sides of the gripper are on the same groove by moving your first half up while applying pressure to the pole and then down again until you feel it drop in the groove. Once I have all the grippers on for the first lower shelf, I then place the lower shelf on the floor sideways and slip the poles into the four holes. I then give the shelf a little push on all four corners so the shelf won't displace itself once righted up. After the first shelf, I place the other shelves into the proper positions, pushing all shelves to cover the grippers. When I finally set the shelf right side up, I take a hammer and lightly tap all corners of each shelf. These shelves are so versatile and can handle a lot of weight. I use these in my kitchen, walk-in closet, and the office.
